Vera Mendonca, beloved wife, devoted mother, and doting grandmother, peacefully passed away on August 19, 2023 in Arlington, Texas, at the age of 90. She was born on April 22, 1933 in Kahuku, Hawaii to the late Joseph and Marie (Cambra) Vierra.
Vera was raised in Kahuku on the island of Oahu, Hawaii and was a proud graduate of Kahuku High School. After completing secretarial school, she worked in office administration until she met the love of her life, Robert Mendonca, who preceded her in death. They celebrated their wedding surrounded by family and friends on November 19, 1955, and raised five children together.
Vera dedicated her life to her family. She traveled alongside her husband, who served in the Air Force for over 20 years, living in Hawaii, Guam, Florida, Japan, Nebraska, and Texas. After settling in Texas and buying a house, she told her husband she wasn’t moving again! She was an active member of the Air Force wives club and enjoyed growing orchids, participating in numerous bowling leagues, crocheting blankets, cheering on sports teams, and spending quality time with her loved ones.
She is survived by her daughters, Paulette (Joseph) Moody and Cynthia (Gregory) Delanoy; and her son, Howard (Debra) Mendonca. Vera will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Nicholas Moody, Meghan Moody, Tiffany Lacaze, and Kevin Mendonca.
Vera was preceded in death by her sons, Robert Allen Mendonca Jr. and John Joseph Mendonca; and her brother, Joseph Vierra Jr.
Vera will be remembered for her unwavering love, dedication to her family, and zest for life. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests no flowers or plants but to please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.
