Mike was born on July 8th, 1944, to Floyd A. and Mildred Irene McCoy of Cockrell Hill Texas who proceeded him in Death.
He graduated from Sunset High School in 1963 and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1965-1967. He served his time stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. After enlisting in the US Army during the summer, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Linda Sue Wright in the Fall of 1965. Together they were blessed with two children, Michael Wayne in 1966 and Tabrina Michelle in 1968.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Cockrell Hill, making his father’s businesses his own legacy. Snowflake Washateria and car wash have been an anchor in Cockrell Hill’s business district for over 70 years. His dedication to the community as a service provider and business owner did not stop there. Mike volunteered with the Cockrell Hill Fire Department for many years, serving as Fire Chief for two of those terms and several terms as Mayor Pro Tem and City Council member. It is believed that the Honorable William Michael McCoy is the first elected official to die while holding office.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Sue, children Michael Wayne and Tabrina Michelle Garcia (husband Heath); Grandchildren, Michael Wayne McCoy Jr., Ashlie Nicole Rocha (husband Antonio), Keesha Renae Gayton (husband Lee) and Brandi Davis; Great grandchildren, Abigail Michelle and Adilyn Nicole Rocha, Jayda Alexandra Acosta, Ashlee Celeste Gaytan and Cassandra Hernandez. He also leaves behind sisters, Sammie Crump and Rosemary Hamilton as well as many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends who will forever have a void in their lives.
It is the family’s desire that you join us in celebrating the life of a man who gave of himself to so many. Nary a person in need Mike encountered that he did not help if he could. Whether it be a few dollars, advice or even a prayer, he will always be remembered as a stellar soul, now one of God’s angels.
