Coach Thompson was a real cool , "P.E.  coach", He never treated and of his P.E. students like we were not also athletic. I think he would watch us to see if there was any raw talent that he could mold into a basketball project. 
I hate to say that was not me, but I began to enjoy the game instead of going around and doing stupid stuff that would only get me in trouble.  Me and my friends began to hit the parks and play pick up basketball games because of Coach Thompson given us a chance to play during P.E. instead of doing other games. 
Coach Thompson was just a cool dude and leader of athletes.  I learned to be patient from him as I became a leader of Marines and I think I got something from his example.

I had a number of Coaches throughout my
formative years. Coach Thompson was right there at the top. He was tough as nails, bt he had a tender spirit we all sensed.
   
One morning during two a days, my best
friend Steve Smith and I were sitting on the
steps of the original Jackson Jr High and South Grand Prairie High School waiting
for Coaches to open up the dressing room 
for practice.  We saw a skunk and for no
reason I’m particularly, we chased it under
the field house. It sprayed and to make a short story longer , we eventually dressed
out for practice. 
I don’t know why, he knew I was behind it
and he had mercy and I escaped the board
of education.  I loved Coach and I always will. Rest in Peace Coach. God bless you!
I’m thankful I had a chance to introduce my
wife Karen to him at Bowles Life Center.

Pete was the best!  I competed against Pete, Earl Burleson, Leslie Stuart,  Alvin Dalton, Richard Krystnyk (sp?) and others in the Gopher Bowl in 1957, playing for Arlington.  19-19 tie!  Pete was quaterback in Grand Prairie's single wing.  Burleson was High School All-American tailback- a real monster!   In 1959 I became good friends with Pete at UTA, and worked out with him at many of the Dallas Ft. Worth gyms.  And I became friends with Earl, and Alvin Dalton.  All great guys!

Pete was a great athlete,  very intelligent, with a wicked sense of humor.   Not many  like him.

Just found Pete's obituary, searching for him.  Even though I had not seen him since before 1990, he was a great friend.   I attended UTA with him and with my other friend, Travis Wynne, we all worked out at the local health clubs together. Pete was a superior athlete in all sports.  The strange thing about our friendship was we were previously "enemies"- playing football against each other.  Pete was quarterback on the great Grand Prairie team of 1956 (class of1957) and I was on the Arlington High team of that year- playing to a 19-19 tie in the Gopher Bowl.  Some really great athletes (and people on that team)- Earl Burleson, Alvin Dalton, Leslie Stuart, Richard Krystinik- to name just a few.      David Orr, Vancouver, Washington.

Hi Myrna,  You and Pete have been on my mind, so I looked you up today on-line, and saw Pete's obituary.  I'm so sorry.  I send you my deepest sympathy and prayers in your loss.  My Luke and Lauren Grace are both teenagers.  Seems like yesterday, I was sitting on your couch and visiting.  God bless you.

I was just informed of Pete's passing. I shared an office with Pete during my teaching and coaching days at South Grand Prairie ISD. He was a great coach and mentor to his players. Above all he was a friend you could count on and always set a professional example to other educators.

So sorry to hear of Pete's passing. He was a great coach,mentor during my tenor at Adams and was a big help to our family when my Dad contracted ALS. Coach took him to doctor appts. and was a true and beloved friend. He WILL be missed by all.

I just heard about Coach Thompson's passing and will miss the times I ran into him while passing through GP. He was a great mentor in my coaching career and Mryna, want to say thanks for the great memories from Coach.

Myrna, I am so sorry for your loss. Pete was a joker, a competitor, a mentor, a great coach, and most of all, a great friend to me, my father, and countless others. It is a privilege for me to call him my friend.

Sorry to hear about coach Thompson. He was an inspiration to many as a coach and friend. We didn't win many games when I played at Adams, but it wasn't for lack of coaching. He was a good man. Roddy Hopkins

I can't tell you how much I was honored to have met you when I was in high school. You were an outstanding coach and everybody who played for you looked up to you for inspiration. May God rest your soul in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Myrna, Bart, and Family, We will miss Pete so much.  He was such a special person, and Roy loved to watch sports with him, especially the TCU games.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of loss.

He was my first football coach at Adams Jr. High in 1963, a new school, new coach and new Jr. High kid. He helped all of us build muscles we never dreamed imaginable, and achieve new heights of success in life.

He was very important in the lives of so many children.

I knew Pete all my life, and there was not a finer friend. Anyone who knew Pete,deeply admired him and  looked upon him as a man of  honor and dignity with deep loyalty to his many friends. There are so many great memories and shared experiences that I couldn't begin to list them here. Playing football with him was a treat and brother was he a competitor. We coached junior and senior league baseball together for years and commuted to North Texas State together all those years.We had countless cups of coffee together over the decades and just being around Pete was a special treat. He was my pal and buddy, and Pete you will be deeply missed missed.   Jack Taylor
