She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Chapel, great grandson, Wyatt Didion, four brothers and four sisters.
Bertie is survived by her children, Peggy (Tim) Didion, Diane (Pam Doty) Chapel, grandchildren, Brandon (Sarah) Didion, Amanda Didion, Aaron Didion, great grandchildren, Brooke Didion, Tyler Didion, Remington Didion, Madelyn Didion, brothers, Gene Shetley, AJ Jr. Shetley, special niece Barbara Bratton, care giver April James, many nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.
Bertie leaves a legacy of love and family. She was a driving force in her family and her spirit, wisdom and love will be missed by generations. She enjoyed crocheting, word find puzzles and watching old shows. Bertie worked for many years, up until she retired, at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans where she made many lifelong friends.
A visitation for Bertie will be held Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service to start at 11:00 AM at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave N.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan 49505. Father Tom Page will officiate the service. A burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, 2894 Patterson Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512.
