

Daniel DeKorte, aged 67, passed away on August 2, 2014. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during Vietnam, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart, having been wounded in combat on February 27, 1968. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerrit and Leslie DeKorte; mother and father-in-law Dorthea and Francis Forsythe; brothers Gerrit Jr., Howard, and Larry DeKorte; his dogs Winnie the Pooh and Kalico as well as his cat Patches. Surviving are his wife of nearly 43 years Diana DeKorte; daughter Amanda DeKorte; son Jonathan DeKorte; dogs Scooby, Scrappy, Pandora; sisters Karen McCarty, Joyce (Richard) Douglas, Susan Palmer; sisters-in-law Fran DeKorte, Sonja DeKorte; Diana’s Siblings Sharon (Larry) VanBennekom, Val “Johnnie” (Roger)VanBennekom, Wayne (Linda) Forsythe, Dale (Anita) Forsythe, many nieces, nephews, friends and longtime friend Suellen DeKorte. Daniel will be remembered as a kind man who enjoyed a good laugh. He enjoyed hunting, and was a lover of animals, westerns, and time spent with family and friends. Please join his family for visitation on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Reyers North Valley Chapel from 1-3 and 6-8pm. Additional visitation from 10-11am will precede Funeral Services at 11am at St. John’s United Church of Christ (1934 Bridge St NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504) on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Daniel will be laid to rest during a private family ceremony at Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors.
