David Alan Dodge II, age 53, passed away unexpectedly on February 5, 2023. David was born the eldest child of Carol and David Dodge on December 1, 1969 in Bloomington, IN. His earliest years were spent adventuring with his proud parents on university campuses and military bases along the east coast.
The family eventually settled back in Grand Rapids, where David attended grade school and high school, enjoying many escapades with family and friends. David went on to obtain his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and his juris doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School.
A true renaissance man, David's life was filled with too many interests to list. He traveled the globe and had a continuous drive to educate himself and explore God's creations. With his charismatic personality and a strong sense of humor, David was fortunate to strike up many friendships wherever he went. He will be remembered for his handsome smile, laughter, courage to often take the road less traveled, and passion for a good debate.
This passion for debate naturally set the stage for his career in law. David practiced law in several jurisdictions including Michigan, California, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. In addition, he practiced and taught law in several countries including South Korea, the Philippines, and China. Those who knew David were well aware of his ability to vehemently advocate for people and causes he believed in, unafraid to boldly go against the grain.
In 2008 David's softer side was most exposed when God blessed him with his greatest gift in life, his beautiful daughter Chen Xi Dodge. While their time together on earth was cut too short, David's strong Christian faith assures his eternal spirit will forever shine on to Chen Xi and family.
David was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Clara and Harold Longstreet, paternal grandparents Lorraine and Richard Dodge, and several aunts and uncles. David is survived by his beautiful daughter Chen Xi Dodge, her mother Xingxia Luo; parents Carol and David Dodge; brother Brian (Eriko) Dodge; sister Julie (Randy) Dodge-Lott; brother Mark (Alyson) Dodge; sister Emily Dodge; nephews Michael and Thomas Dodge; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many more special friends that David was blessed to share his life with here on earth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday March 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church
