

David Richard Knisley, age 45, died Sunday May 8, 2016 tragically from injuries he sustained in a fire while aboard his cherished boat “Gem N I II“. He was born in Port Huron, MI in the summer of 1970 to David and Sue Knisley of Marysville, MI. David will be lovingly remembered and missed by his parents as well as daughters, Zoe Chrzan and Aubrey Knisley; Brother David and Sister in Law Julia Knisley; Sister Shon T Taylor of San Diego, CA, Aubrey’s Mother Carrie Price Knisley, his soulmate Lori Traxler, his special cat Maverick and many nieces, nephews, friends and firefighter coworkers. He was a dedicated employee of the City of Grand Rapids Fire Department for over 19 years serving most recently as a Lieutenant. David was highly regarded by his professional peers for his expertise as a trench rescue specialist. He was an instructor with the department's technical rescue team as well as Michigan Urban Search and Rescue. David was a member in good standing of the Sons of the American Legion, J Edward Mallorey post # 449 in Marysville, MI. He was also a well-known and respected announcer for various professional motor sports events. A memorial service with honors provided by the Grand Rapids Fire Department has been scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 12-2 PM at the Reyers North Valley Chapel. Following the service David’s family has invited all friends and family to continue celebrating his life during a reception hosted by the Grand Rapids Fire Fighters Union Local #366 at the Grand Rapids Firefighter’s Building Hall.
