

David Walter McConnaughey, 85, an avid Notre Dame Football and Detroit Tiger fan, passed away peacefully at Brookcrest Christian Rehabilitation & Life Center on October 28 from complications of having lived a full life. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary, his grandson, Jason M. Jauw, his brother John (Jack) McConnaughey and his sister Kathryn Clancy.
Dave is lovingly remembered by his daughters Kathy Jauw (Jim) of Byron Center and Diane Nidell (Chris) of Scott/Ramstein AFB with their families: grandson Brian Jauw (Danielle) and great-grandson Paxton Jauw of Aurora, CO; granddaughters Aubrey Nidell of Nokesville, VA, Kristen Nidell and Alyssa Nidell of Scott/Ramstein AFB. Dave is survived by his sisters Mary Alice Bryant and Jean Amidon (Emmitt), and by his brothers Robert McConnaughey & James McConnaughey (Eleanor) and many nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren.
Dave was a lifelong dog lover, who was born in the city of Wyoming, MI (formerly Wyoming Township) in 1927. He graduated from Catholic Central High School and attended Aquinas College before serving his country in the US Army. Dave enjoyed singing, word puzzles, cribbage, reading voraciously and wood working. He was a member of the choirs at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Grand Rapids, where he also served on the Usher’s club, Parish Council and was a Director of Cathedral Television. Dave’s work life took him from the US Postal Service to Gordon Food Service and ended at Steelcase.
Visitation will be held at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave N.E., Grand Rapids, MI on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 2-4PM and 6-8PM, with Rosary at 7PM.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Cathedral of St. Andrew, 215 Sheldon SE, Grand Rapids MI on Friday, Nov. 2 at 10AM with Rev. Tom Tavella officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Resurrection Cemetery, 4100 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, MI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Byron Center Fine Arts Foundation, P.O. Box 13, Byron Center, MI in memory of Mr. McConnaughey.
