

On July 1st 2015, Donald James Freiburger Sr. joined his wife Dorothy in heaven for all eternity. Don was born in Grand Rapids on June 16th 1925, to Joseph and Olive Freiburger. He was the little brother to Joe Jr. Don left Creston High School at age 17 to serve his country in the United States Navy. Throughout his life Don was very proud of his country and proud to be a WWII veteran.
After his stint in the Navy, Don met and married Dorothy Simon who was the love of his life. They married on November 23rd 1946, in Grand Rapids. Together they raised a family of 7 children. After serving his country, Donald dedicated 14 years to the Grand Rapids Fire Dept. Later in life he owned and operated Freiburger Construction and the Hanky Panky Party Store.
Don had a kind and generous soul. He will be remembered for all the good things he did for other people. God used Don as an ambassador. He was known for helping anyone he could. Don was a proud Catholic who loved his church. Don is preceded by his loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy who passed away in 1999, his daughter Karen Magdefessel, his parents Joe and Olive Freiburger, and his brother Joe (Ginny) Freiburger.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children Linda (Ken) Mork of Suttons Bay, MI, Jim (Gayle) Freiburger of Grand Rapids, MI, Don Freiburger Jr. of Grand Rapids, MI, Bob (Marsha) Freiburger of Grand Rapids, MI, Maggie (Bob) Vugteveen of Rockford, MI, and Rich (Kim) Freiburger of Grand Rapids, MI. Donald will also be missed by his 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, a niece and 2 nephews.
On numerous occasions Don told his family that he had a "perfect life". So it was with great comfort that his family knows he was received by his Heavenly Father and all the family and friends that have preceded him in death.
The Mass of Christian burial, officiated by Rev. Lamar Partin, at 11am on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church (224 Carrier St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI). A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to either St. Alphonsus Parish or to the Friends of Michigan Veterans Homes Inc.
His ashes will be buried next to his wife Dorothy at St. Michael's Cemetery in Suttons Bay, MI at a later date.
