

Donna Jean Montague, age 93, of Grand Rapids, passed away on May 11, 2017. She was born in the Spring of 1924 in Grand Rapids to the late Fred and Lela Opper. Also preceding her in death is her first husband of 36 years, John DeGroot, who died in 1980 as well as her second husband, Gerald Montague who passed away in 2007. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Patricia (William) Bartlett, Carol (Larry) Elder and John DeGroot Jr; grandchildren, April (Jason) Woods, Amy (Brad) Jacobs, Alison (Matthew) Cahan and John (Kaila) DeGroot; great-grandchildren, Katherine, Jack, William, Addison, Lily, Scarlett, Cohen and Easton. Also surviving is a sister, Darlene Pinder and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donna will be best remembered for her love of her family and cherished the times spent playing games with them. She had a passion for knitting and recently donated 50 knitted hats to the Santa Claus Girls. Another favorite pastime was baking and cooking. In her younger years she would often go camping at Long Lake for a peaceful get-a-way. Donna was a caregiver herself. She took care of elderly people while she was well into her 70’s herself. Her deep faith guided her as she read her Bible daily. John 14:1-4 A special thank you to the staff at Pilgrim Manor for their love and compassionate care they provided to Donna. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 11 am at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A time of visitation will be Monday evening, May 15, 2017 from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Another visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service beginning at 10 am on Tuesday.
