Gene F. Czerwinski

Aged 84, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2016 in the company of family. Gene was born in Grand Rapids in 1932 to Raymond and Mary Czerwinski. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife of nearly 61 years, Phyllis [Keller] Czerwinski, who passed away just a year prior in 2015, and his brother Terry Czerwinski. Surviving are his daughters; Kay Marie Saaranen, Mary Jean (James) Dimitriou, grandchildren; Kristofor, Cameron, Angelo, Nika, great-grandchildren; Sophia, Collin, as well as his sister Carol Kelley and brother Thomas (Gale) Czerwinski. Gene was a 1951 graduate of Catholic Central High School. Soon after he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving until 1953. He then joined the Reserves from 1953 to 1960. Gene worked at Rapistan Systems as a Design Engineer from October 11, 1976 until his retirement on March 1st 1997. He was an active member in his church, St. Jude Catholic, serving as a lay minister. Gene was also the President of Home and School with his wife Phyllis Czerwinski for St Jude Catholic School. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, sailboats, woodworking/ carpentry and was meticulous about caring for his home, cars, etc. Most importantly, Gene cared for his family and will be fondly remembered by them and many friends. Please join the family for visitation at Reyers North Valley Chapel on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with an additional visitation on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 10-11am at St. Jude Catholic Church (1120 Four Mile Rd N.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan) followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Rev. Tom Page as celebrant. Gene will be laid to rest next to Phyllis in Rosedale Memorial Park.
