He was born on January 19, 1937 to Harold and Lorraine Pearl and later joined by a younger sister Nancy. He spent a portion of his life in Indiana, before settling in Grand Rapids, MI where he attended Union High School. He was a part of the hockey team there. After high school he met the love of his life Doris Sikorksi, and they were married in 1958. They were blessed to welcome 5 children. When Jerry wasn’t working in the printing press business or busy as the union president he could be found taking the family on camping trips, enjoying bowling, rounds of golf, or attending family gatherings. He owned many different RVs and was always proud to drive Ford cars and trucks.
When his children were grown, they had 6 grandchildren to keep them busy. He and Doris could be found at every sporting event and school assembly. After Doris passed in 2010, he filled his days in multiple bowling leagues, serving as treasurer, golf leagues and volunteered at the Boat and Canoe Club. He knew all of his servers by name at his favorite restaurants and enjoyed going out to breakfast on Sunday mornings. One accomplishment that he was especially proud of was achieving the elusive 300 in bowling. He wore his 300 ring proudly. He would spend his days cheering on the Red Wings, Lions, Notre Dame Football, and the sports teams of his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years Doris and his son Gerald Pearl II, who he laid to rest earlier this year.
He is survived by his children Mary Viilo, Brenda (Bob) Truskoski, Ann (Tom) Vos, and Mike Pearl. He will also be missed greatly by his grandchildren Brianne (Jordan) Ide, Casey (Jake) Wagner, Tyler Truskoski, Tayler (Jake) Martin, Haley Vos and Hannah (Connor Cauvet) Vos and 5 great grandchildren (Everly, Ezekiel, Elijah, Ezra, and Jonah). Family Friend Kym Farmer and Breakfast Club Member Mike VanSpronsen. His dog Cassie remained by his side until the end. He will be remembered fondly by his numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, cousins, bowling league members, golfing partners, and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday December 2nd at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI at 12:00 with a luncheon to follow at the funeral home. The family will receive guests one hour before the service at 11:00.
