Gertrude Bouwens

Gertrude L. Bouwens aged 98 of Grand Rapids passed away May 4, 2012. She was born May 12, 1913 in Hancock, Michigan to John and Linda Leiviska. After living in Superior, Wisconsin, the family moved to the west side of Grand Rapids when Gert was ten years old. Gert graduated from Union High School and began to work at American Seating Company in the office. She met Frank Bouwens and was married in 1937 and continued to live on the west side. Gert was proud of her Finnish heritage and loved being with family. She particularly loved being at her cottage at Pickeral Lake with her family. Gert is survived by sons Gerald (Suzanne) of Tucson, AZ, and John (Sandra) of Fort Gratiot, MI, and daughter-in-law Beverly Bouwens, of Greenville, MI, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank and son Glenn Bouwens and sister Helen Selleck. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Reyers North Valley Chapel 2815 Fuller Ave NE. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM till the time of service on Saturday. Memorials can be made in Gert’s honor to Alzheimer’s Association.
