

Harry Smitter, age 85, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019. He was born May 21, 1933 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah (VanDreal) Smitter, Herbert Smitter, daughter Kelly Jo Smitter, brother John Smitter (Johnny), sisters, Jean De Guilio, Irene Van Dyke and June Pechumer, niece, Linda Gonzalez. He is survived by his children, Mike (Doreen) Smitter, Scott Smitter, Wendy Smitter, Kimberlee Newberg and Mark (Linda) Smitter; grandchildren, Chris (Brigitte) Newberg, Courtney Newberg, Casey Newberg, Chelsey (Brad) Ball, Trenten Smitter, Rob (Sarah) Smitter, Matt (Megan) Smitter, Nicole Smitter and the mother of his children Sandra Smitter and 5 great grandchildren. Plus, many nieces and nephews.
In his early years, Harry and his brother John owned a business as cement contractors “Smitter Brothers” they poured basements in numerous homes in Grand Rapids and surrounding suburbs. After the business dissolved, Harry was self-employed as a mechanic, where he repaired vehicles for many. For 13 years, he was the main mechanic for Hostess. Harry was a kind and humble man. He had a strong work ethic and was honest and dedicated.
A private Funeral service will be 2:30 PM Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Blythfield Memorial Gardens for immediate family only. Reyers North Valley Chapel will be overseeing the arrangements.
