Jacob Andrew Sheler, incredibly loved dear child of God, age 24, born 9/3/2001 was raised in Grand Rapids, MI and currently residing in Guam, transitioned unexpectedly from this earthly world to his eternal home in glory on May 1, 2026.
Jacob was an exceptionally kind, humble and talented person, dear friend and Sailor, dedicated member of the USS Springfield family/crew. Jacob’s selflessness, kindness, commitment, and sense of duty were evident throughout his entire life, most recently throughout his service in the United States Navy.
From his younger years to growing up through his adult years, he always put his concern for others before his own. He volunteered in the Discovery Village program at church, was section leader in the Forest Hills Central marching band, and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who might need it. During his time in the nuclear training pipeline to serving forward - deployed in Guam, Jacob always excelled in his craft, leading those around him by example and never shying away from difficult tasks.
While assigned to the USS Springfield, Jacob completed 3 Western Pacific deployments, earned his submarine dolphins, and was awarded the Navy Expeditionary Medal, 2 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, a Good Conduct Medal, 3 Overseas Service Ribbons, and 1 Sea Service Ribbon. Outside of uniform, Jacob loved the outdoors, hiking, traveling, kayaking/surfing, and was always willing and eager to learn something new or join in an adventure! He will be remembered for his service, selflessness, and the impact he made on those who had the privilege of meeting him or serving along side him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his shipmates, family and all who knew him.
