

Jean Denton, age 93, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2018. Born in Battle Creek, Michigan on August 10th, 1925, to the late E.J. and Lillian (Bertholdt) Traut. Jean graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and DePauw University. As a long-time resident and teacher in Cedar Springs, she was an active member in her community until relocating to Grand Rapids. Jean was an avid reader, loved card games, and spending time with her family and a wide circle of friends. She was an awesome mother, grandmother, Nana, great grandmother and friend. She volunteered at Frederick Meijer Gardens and the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Jean was a member of the Cedar Springs Women’s Club, Cedar Springs United Methodist, and Trinity Lutheran Churches. Jean was a woman of faith, dignity, and had a genuine love for people. She spent her life in service to others, and was loved by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Denton, daughter, Deborah (Denton) Dykstra, and son-in-law, Steve Fay. Mrs. Denton is survived by her children, Todd (Julie) Denton, Carla Fay, David (Jennifer) Denton, and son-in-law, Tom Dykstra; 10 Grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many friends.
Visitation from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2700 Fulton St E, Grand Rapids, MI 49506. A service celebrating Jean’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 4th at Trinity Lutheran. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the MS Society of Michigan.
