During WWII, Karl proudly served his country in the US Army.
A gentle and kind man, Karl will be remembered for his love of his family and dedication to his Lord and Savior. As a father and husband, he was a hard-working humble man committed to providing for his family. As a man of deep faith, Karl enjoyed using the gifts God gave him to give back to his community by volunteering his time and talents with many local organizations. He felt blessed every time he could serve others.
Karl is survived by his wife Betty, his children: Mary Lou (Al) Bredeweg, David (Debra) Hofstra, Patty (Cal) DeGood, Kathy (Tom) Dykhouse, Steve (Mary) Hofstra; his stepchildren: Jill Fritz, Jon (Teresa) Damaska; 25 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and his brother Allen (Leila) Hofstra as well as many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his first wife Beulah, his granddaughter Aimee Hofstra, his sister Marian Zinger, and his brother Jack Hofstra.
Visitations and funeral service will be held at Sunshine Community Church in Grand Rapids, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday January 10, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday January 11, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Funeral service with military honors will begin at 11 am on Tuesday, January 11, with Pastor Blunt officiating. A light luncheon will follow.
Memorial donations in Karl’s memory may be made to Wedgewood Christian Youth Home or Sunshine Community Church.
