

Leola "Lee" Fitzgerald Marcusse, 93, passed away Saturday, December 3rd, surrounded by loving family. She was born in Grand Rapids on January 1, 1923, to T. James and Leola Fitzgerald, the eldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Henry J. Marcusse, sisters Evelyn (J. Christopher) Ringenberg, Geraldine Weiland, and brother Robert (Helen) (Beverly) Fitzgerald. Lee is survived by her brother Thomas (Grace) Fitzgerald, brother-in-law Donald Weiland, by her children Jim (Jill) Marcusse, Jack (Nancy) Marcusse, Tom (Pam) Marcusse, Sue (Craig) Cook, and Mary (Dave) Lager. Her grandchildren are Katie (Rob) VanDyk, Maureen (Jeff) Benton, Jordan (Katie) Marcusse, Molly Marcusse, Douglas (Hillary) Marcusse, Jeffrey (Kara Van Elderen) Marcusse, Kathleen (Josh) Dean, Nicole (Scot) Wheelock, Michelle Cook, Rosa (Bo) Anderson, Corey (Ashley) Lager, and John Lager. Lee also doted on her great-grandchildren Isabella and Caden Marcusse, Chloe Dean, AJ, Ryan, and Addison Wheelock, Ethan and Gavin Cook, Collin and Cameron Anderson, and Beatrix Pearl Marcusse, and many nieces and nephews. Lee lived most of her life in Grand Rapids, but also enjoyed summers at Hess Lake in Newaygo and winters of sunshine, golf, and square dancing in Mission, Texas. Lee was a nurturer, a woman of grace, sweetness, and humor who loved her family and friends. She was an avid reader, card player, and a whiz at crossword puzzles. It was a privilege and a pleasure to share time with her. There will be a memorial Mass at Saint Jude's Catholic Church, 1120 4 Mile Road NE, Grand Rapids on Friday December 9th at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Thursday, December 8th, from 5-8pm, at Reyers North Valley Chapel, or at the church an hour before the service. Memorial donations in Lee's memory may be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, 733 3rd Avenue, Suite 510, NY NY 10017, or to Saint Jude's Church.
