

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile Marie (Mathe), son, Robert Marcel, and brothers and sisters: Martha Mercier, Annunciata Mercier, Joanne Tatro, Gaston Mercier, Raymonde Monet, Bernard Mercier, and Gabrielle (Doris) Mercier.
He is survived by his children: Muriel (Marlin) Dreyer, Collette Mercier, Gisele (Thomas) Mix, Gerald (Rebecca) Mercier, Yvonne Mercier, Paul (Mary Jo) Mercier, Monique Mercier (Paul Difflipp), daughter-in-law Suzann (Neelan) Mercier, seventeen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Harold Monet, brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Katie Richard, many nieces and nephews.
Born in Monetville, Ontario, he came to the United States with his parents, Frank and Rose Mercier, and their growing family. He became a citizen in 1942 and served his country during WWII stationed in the Phillipines. Upon his return, he worked for the Roy Smith Co. in Detroit until he retired in 1984. He moved to Grand Rapids in 1987. There he joined St. Jude Catholic Church and resumed his participation with the Knights of Columbus where he achieved the 4th Degree in the Knights, a lifetime goal.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 21, 2013 at St. Jude Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Friends may meet with the family one hour prior to services.
Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 1:00 pm.
