Margo Anne Lawrence, age 69, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away July 16 2023 after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. Margo was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She attended and graduated from Creston High School where she met her husband Richard. Shortly after graduation, she and Richard married on October 28th 1972. They were married for 50 years.
When Margo was just out of high school, she worked as a secretary in the air traffic control center at the Gerald R. Ford Airport. She had her first child Eric at age 27 and her second and final child Dana at age 30. She worked part time when her children were young in order to be involved in their hobbies and various activities. She and Richard worked together at the Amway Grand Plaza, she as a banquet waitress and he as a chef. She was also involved in the school PTA and carpool for the neighborhood kids.
Once her kids were in school, she returned to work full time for the City of Grand Rapids, working in various departments until she retired from the traffic safety department in 2019. She was always willing to help people in need and put other's needs ahead of her own. Margo loved her kids and grandkids fiercely. Retirement finally allowed her to babysit her 2 youngest grandchildren, and this brought her much joy.
She is predeceased by her son Eric Lawrence in 2007, her parents, John and Margaret Bodbyl, and her brother-in-law, Andrew Fry. She is survived by her husband, Richard Lawrence; her daughter Dana (Sam) Dykstra, her grandchildren Lauren Dykstra, Dominic Dykstra and Cameron Dykstra; her sisters Patricia Bodbyl and Nancy Fry; her brother Larry Jackson, and many other relatives.
The family would like to thank the oncology team, especially the oncology nurses and palliative care team at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital for the excellent care and compassion shown to Margo at her most vulnerable time.
Visitation for Margo will be held on Thursday July 20, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel where a memorial service will be held on Friday July 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
