Phyllis Jean Bateman

Phyllis Jean Bateman age 84, of Grand Rapids passed away Tuesday evening June 1st, 2010 at Heartland Healthcare Facility. She was born June 7th, 1925 in Grand Rapids and was the daughter of the late Clifford & Helen (Vaness) Gibson. She enjoyed being at home with her family, gardening and canning with her late husband Wallace. Phyllis retired from Yankee’s Department Store as a clerk. She had attended church at East Leonard Baptist and Trinity Baptist. She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Fred) Canero; two sons David and Timothy Bateman; a daughter in law Marcia Bateman; two grandchildren Michelle and David Wallace Bateman; four great grandchildren, Michael, Shyann, Jessie, and David Wallace Jr.; two brothers Richard (Betty) Gibson and William (Doris) Gibson; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Wallace Bateman in 2009. Funeral Service will be held Friday June 4th at 11:00 a.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave. and Three Mile Road with Rev. Walter DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in Fairplains Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to The Family of Phyllis Bateman with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
