After graduating from Creston High School, Ray started college with his eye set on becoming a pharmacist. As many men of his age, the call to serve his county came and Ray enlisted in the Navy where he was a hospital corpsman. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home to continue his studies.
Attending Ferris State University, Ray would find more than just his education. He met the former Sharon Almy. The two were smitten and shortly after graduation, they married in 1968 and settled in Grand Rapids. Their family would grow to include three sons, and Ray spent his career working for several pharmacies before his retirement.
Over the years, Ray was involved in the Boy Scouts as a troop leader. He was a member of the Grand Rapids Antique Club. He loved his 1969 Chevy, his first brand new car, and is proud to say he still has it. He was also a talented woodworker, and helped build decks, porches, furniture and helped with countless repair projects.
A man of strong faith, Ray attended Northlawn United Methodist Church where he was an active member assisting on various committees and served wherever needed. The devoted family man will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ray is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon, his sons: Will, Scott (Katie) and Doug (Jonelle); his grandchildren: Landon, Carter and Kaydence; his sister Marianne Lull and his brother Stephen (June) Lull as well as many other relatives.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Wednesday April 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Memorial donations in memory of Ray may be directed to his church Northlawn United Methodist Church.
