

Robert Lawrence Boss, aged 84, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday February 14, 2016. Robert was born in the spring of 1931 to Charles Joseph Nicolas and Barbara Gertrude [Veeninga] Boss who along with his son Thomas G. Boss and granddaughter Ashley have preceded him in death. He was also the last of 4 siblings. Robert is survived by his loving wife Margaret Rose [Sabones] Boss and will be dearly remembered by his 7 remaining children, 11 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Robert had been a lifetime member of St. Alphonsus and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed his hobbies of hunting, fishing, trapping, and competitive skeet shooting all his life. Robert proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Des Moines during the Korean Conflict. He was also a dedicated employee of 30 years at General Motors until his retirement. Robert was very involved with the American Legion post #258 as both a current member and past commander. Robert was an avid vintage car enthusiast. Both Robert and Margaret shared a love of antique cars, and belonged to the Grand Rapids Antique Car Club since 1977. Robert was also the proprietor of Dribbins Glass. A Mass of Christian Burial has been scheduled at 11am on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at St. Alphonsus Parish (224 Carrier Ave. Ne, Grand Rapids, MI) with Fr. Patrick Grile and Fr. Robert Miller of St. Dorothy’s in Chicago, IL. co-officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church beginning at 10am.
