

Robert M. Lovell died quietly on June 19, 2014 at the age of 93. Bud married the love of his life, Roberta Haadsma, on August 7, 1945, and she preceded him in death on February 28, 2004. He will be remembered by his children, Jack and Mary Lovell, Janet (the late William) Giberson, and Dr. Mark and Eileen Lovell. Also surviving are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Andrea Lovell and daughter, Claire; Jenny (Owen) Mesdag and son, Tao; Carrie (Zack) McInelly and children, Dylan and Ella; Tim Giberson; Christine (Shawn) Aardema and children, Zachary Robert and Alex; Sean Lovell and Emily Lovell. Also surviving are Roberta's remaining family members Marjorie Eppink, Edwin Martin, Delores Haadsma, Mary (John) Stadt; and many nieces and nephews. Bud had many close friends with whom he and his family shared many good times throughout the years. Known as Bud or Bob to his family and friends, he was the son of the late Mack and Halla Lovell, and brother to Jack Lovell, who died as a teenager. Bud grew up in the Sand Lake area and graduated from Belding High School. He proudly served in the Pacific Theatre from 1940 to 1945, and was recently honored as one of six remaining soldiers from the Red Arrow Division in the Muskegon area. After living most of his adult life in Grand Rapids, Bob moved to Seminole Shores Assisted Living Center in Norton Shores to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. His family is grateful for the loving care he received while at Seminole Shores as well as the compassionate support from Harbor Hospice during his final weeks. Bob was a long-time employee of the Grand Rapids Press prior to his retirement, and had many interests throughout his life. He expressed his love of music by singing for many years in the choir at Second Congregational UCC, as well as in the Great Lakes Chorus and barbershop quartets. He owned and restored Model As, and was a long-time member of the Grand A's. Cremation has taken place, and he will join Roberta in the Memory Garden at Second Congregational UCC. The service to celebrate the life of Robert Lovell will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2:00pm, with Rev. Heather Dean officiating. His children and grandchildren will greet relatives and friends from 1-2pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel. Cremation has taken place, and he will join his wife in the Memory Garden at Second Congregational UCC during a private family service.
