Ronald John Zurek

Ronald J. Zurek, age 71, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Grand Rapids on April 15, 1941, the son of Stanley and Katherine (nee Sierputowicz) Zurek. Ronald was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, class of 1960 and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from CSX Railroad after 42 years of dedicated service. Mr. Zurek was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a great love for nature and the outdoors. Surviving is Pat, his loving wife of 48years; daughters, Sherry Zurek, Karen (Brad)Cisler, and Pamela (Jon) McCumber; sister, Cynthia Brooks; sister-in-law, Irene (Ron) Nauta. Also surviving are nephews, Stan (Cheryl) Zurek, Steve (Laurie) Zurek, Bill (Jennifer) Brooks and Frank Brooks; niece, Rachel (Mike) Toscano and several great nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Stan Zurek.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1120 Four Mile Rd. N.E. Grand Rapids, with Rev. James Keena as celebrant. The family will receive friends at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave. N.E. , Grand Rapids on Monday, October 15, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Those desiring may wish to consider a contribution to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Mr. Zurek.
