Valentino Ciullo, age 91, passed away on February 24, 2025 just 4 days shy of his 92nd birthday, at Beacon Hill. Val was born in the heart of Philadelphia on February 28, 1933, to Arthur and Barbara (Trongone) Ciullo. He grew up in a home where hard work, family and faith were important, and being Italian there was always a delicious gravy simmering on the stove.
When his country called him to serve during the Korean War, Val proudly entered the Army. During his service he used his talents of singing and dancing to entertain the troops.
After his honorable discharge, Val continued his education earning two master’s degrees in science. One for financial services and the other in management. He spent his career working as a financial advisor. He built his own company, Variable Concepts and even completed his certification as a Charter Financial Consultant. When it was time to retire, Val sold his company, but it did not stop him from working. He maintained his license and worked in the field until he was 90 years old.
He was a gifted photographer and won Photojournalist of the Year. His photograph is housed at the Smithsonian Institute. Val was very proud of his Italian heritage. He was an active member of the Sons and Daughters of Italy and even moved up the board of directors and spent time as the National VP.
When he wasn’t working, Val was probably traveling or on the water at his lake house. He and his wife Kristal traveled extensively throughout Europe, visited China and Greece. Of course, their journeys included a memorable trip to Italy.
Val is survived by his sons: Cameron (Van), Scott (Sharon) and Marc (Dawn); his granddaughters: Maisie and Kendra, his sister Barbara Ciullo and his brother Robert Ciullo as well as many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kristal in 2018 and his parents.
Private family services will be held at North Park Presbyterian Church on March 8, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to North Park Presbyterian Church.
