

William H. Schmidt, aged 88, entered his rest on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, just as he had lived, hand-in-hand with Jesus. William was born on September 10, 1926 to the late Claude and Viola Schmidt. After serving in the US Army during World War II with occupation forces in Japan, he married his sweetheart Eldora Shook on January 8, 1949. William retired from General Motors after 37 years of service. He loved gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. Over the years, William was a member of the Wesleyan Church and served several congregations. William is also preceded in death by his sister Meredith Eckman, brothers Wayne Schmidt and Roscoe “R.A” Schmidt, and granddaughter Rachael Schmidt. Surviving William are his loving wife of 66 years, Eldora and their children Ron (Gwen) Schmidt of Caro, MI, Gale (Ann) Schmidt of Caledonia, MI, Darrell (Mary) Schmidt of Waynesville, NC, and Mike (Vicki) Schmidt of Clarksville, MI, 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great- great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Rev. Ronald (Rita) Schmidt of Fremont, MI, as well as his sister Lucille Dieble of Greenville, MI. Please join the family for a time of visitation on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Reyers North Valley Chapel from 5-8pm. An additional hour of visitation will be held at Cornerstone United Methodist Church (1675 84th Street Southeast, Caledonia, MI 49316) on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 10-11am with the funeral service immediately following.
