Brother Doyle, as he was affectionately known north of the US border, and Hermano Daniel south of the border, was born on January 27, 1927 in Woodsboro, TX to Henry and Lillian (Crawford) Brymer. He was the eighth of nine children born to Henry and Lillian.
Before attending Baylor University, He served in the Army Air Corps. During his time in the Corps he worked with the crew that installed the elevator in President Roosevelt’s airplane, dubbed “The Sacred Cow”, the predecessor to Air Force One. He also maintained the airplanes of generals Douglas MacArthur and Dwight D Eisenhower.
While at Baylor University his love for God and passion to preach the gospel led him to pursue a life wholly devoted to Christian ministry and service.
On August 15, 1953 he married Loretta Strickland of Corpus Christi, TX. The call of God soon took them to south central Mexico to the city of Cuernavaca. In the ensuing years they raised four children – Daniel, Dana, Stephen and Michael. Doyle and Loretta’s love for music made it a mainstay in their home, as well as their ministry. With him playing the guitar, and her playing the accordion, their singing family soon became a favorite in churches on both sides of the US border.
Brother Doyle (Hermano Daniel) was the consummate encourager. He made everyone around him feel important and valued, especially children. And his joy was infectious. Whether with his exuberant shout, an animated sermon, or a heartfelt song, you couldn’t help but be drawn into his environment of joy and hope. And a song was never far away. Whether it was the middle of the night (quite literally!), or any time of day, he would pick up his guitar and make music. In fact, he was still writing songs up until his last couple of weeks on this earth.
Brother Doyle (Hermano Daniel) is survived by Loretta, their four children: Daniel (Gwen), Dana, Stephen (Ruth), and Michael (Karen); nineteen grandchildren: David (Sahar), Jonathan (Chelsie), Michael (Elysse), Paul, Anna, Kevin (Brandi), Jeff (Erin), Lindsey (Steven), Taylor (David), Danny (Heidi), Stephanie (Jeremiah), Ashlee, Anna Carol (John), Amanda, Aaron, Austin, Addy, Aidan, and Avery; twenty-eight great-grandchildren: Eppie, Beau, Merci, Rozie, Ronen, Ruthie, Austin, Ashlynne, Trey, Tyler, Reagan, Ryan, Ryleigh, Rua, Aden, Eli, Josiah, Olivia, Cassia, Jonathan, Eliana, Henry, Lincoln, Josiah, Jude, Levon, Emily, and Wilder; a sister-in-law Billie Brymer, and several nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid concerns, a memorial service celebrating Brother Doyle (Hermano Daniel) will be held at a later date, at a place yet to be determined. The family will lay him to rest in a private ceremony in south Texas in the Brymer family plot.
