It was kind of hard at first to write something, having recently losing my mom as well...I remember Grandma being one of those current with the times grandmas.  Two examples being when we were younger and big into video games, Grandma would play with us...sometimes she even talked some smack about how badly you played compared to her, and I remember one year...way back during the Brooke Shields' ads for Calvin Klien jeans, Grandma asked if we wanted those for Christmas...since that was what all the teens seemed to want.

My Mother was amazing in various ways!  I remember her driving all of us kids from California to Council Grove, Kansas in the summer of 1958.  I believe  our Dad drove as far as Nevada because that's where he was stationed.  While in Nevada our little dog wiggled out of the car and was run over.  So now Mother has to console four kids and continue the trip eastward.  She entertained us with upbeat stories about the neighbors and friends we were leaving behind! 
Mother stopped in Denver and we got a motel room for the night.  
We took our nightly baths and then she got us all settled in bed for the night.  It was hot, really hot!  The younger kids went to sleep and us older ones tried.  However, we began to hear some old men talking right outside our room and sleep evaded us.  Mother asked the management if they could quiet the conversationalists.  So we drifted off to sleep for maybe 15 minutes.  Then they started up again.  Mother was fit to be tied!  She asked Dennis and I if we would keep her awake if she drove on into to Council Grove?  We agreed and so we began the last part of our journey. 
She got about 200 miles and needed coffee.  She ordered 2 cups one for her and one for me.  All us kids had fallen asleep!  And she had to have someone stay awake to help keep her awake.  So I drank the over sugared, then salted coffee.  She didn't know I had put too much sugar in and then tried to fix it with salt.
So we started off again!  We made it to within a hundred miles of our destination.  She pulled over for a nap, and most of us kids were asleep.  As the sun came up so did us kids.  We tried to stay quiet, but we just continued to get louder!  She shussed us and we quieted down.  Then one after the other we began to giggle and she shussed us.  More and more giggles and we began to shake the whole car with our laughter!  And then to our surprise she laughed with us.  We laughed until tears came to our eyes.  And so we made it to Council Grove, Kansas in the mid summer of 1958.
She taught us much and we learned to enjoy life with fun and games!!

She is already missed.

Grandma was one of the strongest women I knew.  She will be missed and will live on through us all.  One of the good memories I recall was when we drove to Dallas, TX to see Beth graduate from college.  I had worked 2 jobs that day and just knew I was going to have a hard time staying away.  She told me story after story of her life the whole way there.  We laughed for 10 hours and I never once felt like sleeping.  She was an important rolemodel for me so now I have to pass it on to my grandkids.  Looking forward to seeing her again.

One of the sweetest people that i've known. She was always up beat when ever we would visit.
