Steve was a man of sharp intellect, boundless curiosity, and a genuine love for understanding how things worked. Growing up in Waukegan, he developed an early fascination with electronics and mechanical repair—often taking things apart simply to see how they functioned and how they might be improved. That curiosity became the foundation of a lifelong passion and a fulfilling career as a service technician, a role he embraced with both exceptional skill and deep satisfaction. Steve found joy in solving problems, whether repairing a beloved sewing machine or restoring a complex piece of equipment to life.
He served honorably in the United States Navy, an experience that shaped his discipline and work ethic. After his service, Steve became a successful entrepreneur, earning a reputation for excellence, integrity, and reliability in the repair of electronics and appliances. To Steve, fixing things was never just about the repair—it was about people. He especially loved visiting with customers, engaging in thoughtful and often spirited conversations that ranged from circuitry and mechanics to faith, philosophy, and politics. His conversations were never dull, marked by his insatiable curiosity and his eagerness to share what he knew with anyone willing to listen.
Steve was a devoted follower of Christ, living out his faith with sincerity, conviction, and humility. His beliefs guided his life, his work, and the way he treated others.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: Todd (Emily), Tashina, and Bill (Kitze); and by his siblings: Philip (Phil) Zupan, Crown Point, Indiana, Michael (Mike) Zupan and his wife, Anne Statham, Key Largo, Florida, Karen Zupan and her husband, Chris Gregory, Tucson, Arizona, and Susan (Susie) England, Round Lake Beach, Illinois. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Irene Hall.
Steve leaves behind a legacy of ingenuity, service, faith, and meaningful connection. He will be remembered for his brilliant mind, generous spirit, and the countless lives he touched through his work, his conversations, and his unwavering curiosity.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to all who share his love of learning and helping others.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, at LifeQuest Church in Belton, MO.
