Vernon was born in Bendavis, MO to Orval and Alta Burch. He graduated from Houston High School in 1952. Vernon was a US Army veteran, serving from April 1955 to April 1957. He was a barber instructor and owned the barber shop at Richards Gebaur NCO club. Vernon retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He continued to work after retirement for Sprint in security for 10 years.
He married his wife Fern on March 14, 1953. Vernon and Fern have been married for 68 years. She survives at the home. Vernon is also survived by three children, Jane Reed, Janet Sims (Steve) and Jerry Burch. He has four grandchildren, Cassie Howard, Jenna Howard, Justin Burch and Jeff Sims. Vernon was blessed to have 12 great grandchildren.
Vernon’s past time was spent in his garden and he loved to give away his vegetables to his family and friends. Vernon was a faithful servant for God. He loved his wife and family and was a hardworking man, caring, honest and extremely ornery.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 20, 2021 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
A reception will be held at the Lee’s Summit Baptist Temple on Chipman Road at a later date.
