With heavy hearts we share the loss of Barbara Shrontz, a loving wife, an amazing mom, grandma, sister, and friend. Barb leaves behind her husband of 72 years, Marlin; and her three children Dennis (Debby), Brenda (Brad Staffen), and Brian; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her sisters Judy and Debbie; sisters-in-law Carole and Emma; brother-in-law, Ernie; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends all over the state of Michigan.
Barb will always be remembered by her fierce loyalty to family. She spent a lifetime planning showers, picnics, family dinners, birthday parties, and reunions. She was an amazing seamstress, a wonderful cook, and a dedicated homemaker who always had the coffee pot on. Barb’s legacy will be a trusted friend who loved unconditionally.
Throughout the years, Barb played on many bowling leagues, golf leagues, and for over 20 years was an active member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Unit of Post 381, Newaygo, Michigan. In that capacity, she served on the scholarship committee, put her sewing skills to great use mending tattered flags, and traveled extensively, marching in countless parades to honor our country and pay tribute to our troops.
While it’s so hard for us to say goodbye, there’s comfort in knowing that Barb’s beloved sister (and bestie), Dee; her brother, Bob; and her mom, Alma, welcomed her into Heaven with joyful hearts and open arms.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. In honor of Barb, contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice or Women’s Auxiliary Unit 381 at the Croton American Legion. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
