
He was born to Edward and Irene Hansen on October 4, 1917 in Byron Center. Four generations of his family had lived there and in North Dorr. His parents, wife Florence, and brother Edwin preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter Debra of Petoskey; sister-in-law Virginia of Grand Rapids; niece Judy den Otter of Hesperia and family; many friends; and his beloved canine companion Mitzi.
Bernie was a Staff Sergeant in World War II stationed in southern Germany where he managed a motor pool. He was a long time employee of Michigan Bell Telephone.
A summer resident at Douglas Lake, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Cook Funeral Home - Byron Center Chapel, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center. Interment will be at St. Sebastian Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may meet Bernard’s family Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those unable to attend the visitation or funeral service, may sign the family’s Memory Book at www.cookfuneralservcies.com. Memorial contributions may be made to the Byron Center Historical Society. “Home is the fisherman, home from the lake, And the hunter home from the hill.”
