
Cornelia (Connie) Janna Sakko Huisjen, 97, died peacefully on May 15. She was born on June 6, 1914 in Ijmuiden, Netherlands and at age eight immigrated to Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Andrew, her sisters Co (Arie) Van't Hof of Rotterdam, Netherlands, Lyna (Otis) Makepeace and Wilma (Andy) VanderMeulen of Grand Rapids, and sisters and brothers-in-law: Ben (Leona) Boerman, Grace (Gus) Rinck, Martin (Janet) Boerman, Henry (Gertrude) Huisjen, and Kathryn (Gordon) Boer. In 1937 she married Andrew Huisjen and they farmed north of Fremont until Andy's death in 1969. After selling the farm, she lived in Fremont until 1997 when she moved to Grandville and eventually to Sunset Manor and Brookcrest.
She is survived by her children: Don (Pat) of Gloversville, NY, Lois (PJ) Hill of Manhattan, MT, Marilyn (Corwin) Smidt of Ada, and Nancy (Dennis) Engels of Grandville. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of First Reformed Church of Fremont and later of Hope Christian Reformed Church, Grandville. Burial has taken place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. on June 6 at Hope Christian Reformed Church in Grandville.
