Dear Raenyl and family,  We were saddened to just read about Dave's passing.  We did not know or we would have been there.  We remember Dave with such fond memories and will always remember his sweet smile.  May you feel God's peace in this time of loss.  We send our love and prayers.

It's not often you meet a person (or a family) that has such a positive impact on the world around them - but I was fortunate enough to know the Jecmen clan and experience their generosity and warmth first hand. And I'm certain the love and caring in this family was a direct result of having such wonderful parents and a father like David.

My friends and I spent a fair amount of time at the Jecmen household during my teen years as a friend of David's son, Dave, and got to know Tauna, Scott and "Mr. & Mrs. J" quite well. It was a place you always felt welcome - and Mr. J was often there with a smile, a kind word or a laugh. 

While time and life tend to drift many of us apart, I've always appreciated my connection to the Jecmens and the memories of time spent with them growing up. Sometimes you don't realize the impact someone has on your life until much later - but I can truly say my life would not be as full or enjoyable had I not had the pleasure of knowing this family. And I'm certain there are many others who would echo that sentiment.

Rest in peace, Mr. J. Thanks for everything.

Dear Mrs. Jecmen and family,

My sympathy to your family.  Dave was a good friend during the years I worked for Old Kent Bank.  He was a sterling person in all respects.  Dave always had a smile and would listen before he spoke; he cared about people.  I think the last time we got together was when we said goodbye to Margaret Cook at the time that she moved to Chelsea.

It is difficult for me to attend memorial services for friends and even family members.  I just want to say that it has been over a year since I lost my dear wife, Joanie to Alzheimer's.  I pray that you all will, with God's help, understand how you can have a life after the death of a loved one.  He has helped soften the harsh reality of death for me, and I can live on to help others.

What a honor it was to have helped care for David during his stay with us. He was so sweet and kind. I so enjoyed all the moments I got to spend with him and you as well. God bless you and all your family.

First of all, to the entire Jecmen family... Please accept my sympathy for your loss.
Words will never do justice, of just how wonderful a person Mr Jecmen was.

My name is Steve Serbin, and I was privileged to know Mr Jecmen and his family.

I met his son David, while attending Sandy Hill Elementary school  in the 1970's.
We very quickly became great friends, and spent much time together.
From playing sports, to the trumpet, I got to know his Mom, Dad, and family.
I was always so impressed Scott, David, and Tauna;
They were all so kind, friendly, and awesome to be around. It's no surprise how they turned out this way, They have amazing parents!

Mr and Mrs Jecmen would allow me to visit frequently, and benefit from their family surroundings.

As I was blessed to have many memories, I will only share a couple briefly.

Living In Michigan, the winter was playtime for us kids... meaning "all" of us Kids, Mr Jecmen included.
 I never knew you could have such an amazing ice skating rink in your back yard until I witnessed his. Wow.
The time and effort he put into this was evident, as it was professional grade, for back yard fun. I always looked forward to watching him skate, and play hockey with family and friends... very gifted he was, in so many ways. Winter time was a special memory of mine... because Mr and Mrs Jecmen would allow me to come over.. Thank You.

I was invited to participate in The Old Kent Bank ( I believe ) River Bank Run
15K Race with them one year. I trained with David for about 1 week previous.
I was playing much tennis at that time, and was hoping I could handle the distance.
David was prepared, but still helped me train. He rode his bike and kept me company, while I ran 9 miles each day Monday thru Wednesday, 3 miles on Thursday, and we took Friday off.
Mr and Mrs Jecmen invited me over the night before.. Mrs Jecmen made this amazing pasta dish for us. Mr Jecmen said we needed to carb up, before such an event.
I trusted him completely and we enjoyed great food and conversation.
I remember the crowds, scenery, and music as I had never done anything like that.
But what I remember most was Mrs Jecmen cheering me on at the 1/2 way point, telling me I was doing great...And David and His Father, congratulating me when I crossed the
finish line.
It was a memory I will never forget.

I am truly honored, to have known and spent time, with Mr. Jecmen, and his family.

I am grateful for David's support and encouragement when I served as pastor of Holy Redeemer Parish from 1984 to 1991. I appreciate his strong faith, love of family, and devotion to church and community.

God grant him eternal rest. He is remembered in prayer.

Thank you so much Nancy for sharing with us a glimpse of my dad in his work life. I am sitting with my mother right now and your message means a lot to us and our family. We were lucky to experience his decency, compassion and genuine nature on a daily basis and it is so nice to hear from others that we never knew saw the same in him. May we all carry this forward.

A tribute to Dave Jecmen, Jenison, Mi. 

Dave Jecmen was a humble, gentle scholar, and dear friend for over the past 65 years.
From our senior high school days with The Holy Cross Fathers’ (“little sem” days) 
to the middle of his senior year in college at the University of Notre Dame, when he decided  to leave the Holy Cross Congregation and finish his college years at the U of Michigan.  However, his picture still remains in the year book at ND.  All the while he was working as a Grand Rapids banker, I was working as a Holy Cross Missionary in Uganda, East Africa. We kept in touch over those years and continued to keep in contact over the years.  After I applied and acquired my dispensation from the priesthood in 1973, the Jecmen and Speltz families shared many summers together despite the long distance between Jenison and Minneapolis, Mn.  Years later when another dear friend of ours, Bob Bennett, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, Dave saw to it that we needed to be there at Bob’s funeral and also saw to it that my wife, Joan, and I were flown out to Detroit where Dave met us at the airport and drove us to the funeral celebration in Rochester. He then drove us back to the plane headed for Minnesota.  Raenyl, Scott, David Jr., and Tauna remained close friends all through these years.  In fact his kids used to call me Uncle Cy, to make a smoother transition from Fr. Cy after I left the priesthood, and married.  Now, my wife, Joan, my son, Shane, our adopted daughters, Mariel and Lillian, still treasure our many rendezvous over those happy and joyous get-togethers. I refer to Dave as a friend and scholar because if it hadn’t been for his tutoring skills in Logic and Latin at Notre Dame, I would never have graduated from ND in1959.  Until we meet again may the Good Lord continue to hold David and his beautiful, beloved family in the palm of His hands.  May his soul rest in the peace of Christ until we meet again in what might be even sooner than we think…

I was saddened to learn of Dave's death. My name will mean nothing to you, but I want you to know that back in 1992, after my father  died, Dave guided me through a shattering experience. The bank and I were co-administrators of my father's estate, a situation that could have led to much rancor and permanent ill feelings within my family. With his calm grace, tact and skill, he helped me through it, with maximum understanding and support for me throughout the process, and the family remains intact. He was truly one of the nicest, most decent men I have ever known.
