Although I did not know Debbie personally, I knew her character through her daughter Kristen, as parents pass on their character to their children. Through Kristen I know that Debbie was full of compassion, a hard worker, a lover of people. I know that Debbie loved her family and cherished every moment with them.

My sympathy to you Jim and the girls. Whenever I hear the song "God is in control" I think of Debbie. She was our leader for the school bond committee and we worked closely together. She always reminded us that God is in control and in the years after I know she continued to hold that truth. She gave a lot to the community and her family and will be greatly missed. I worked closely with Deb at MichCon for many years. She was a natural leader, smart and talented. She never had a bad word to say about anyone-ever and no one had a bad word about her. Jim and family, We are very sorry to hear about the passing of Deb. I (Dorie) remember working with Deb on school activities at Byron Middle School and high school. We both remember going to the progressive supper that you and the VanderLugt's hosted when Mart and I first joined First Reformed Church. She will be remembered very fondly. We have not attended First Reformed Church in almost 5 years, but First Reformed Church will always be considered our "home" church. Our condolences to you and your family.
