He served in the U.S. Army before graduating from Davenport College and Grand Valley University. He was a gifted storyteller and known for his personable conversation. He was preceded in death by his parents Marinus and Martha Gillissen; brother Adrian Gillissen; and daughter-in-law Christine Gillissen.
He will be remembered by his wife Penny Gillissen; children Mark (Lynell) Gillissen, Michael Gillissen and Nicole (Seth) Bacon; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one nephew.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7PM, Monday, July 2, 2018 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2041 36th Street SW, Wyoming, MI 49519.
