Donald Jay Beverwyk

Don was born and grew up in Holland, MI, graduating from Holland High School. He spent the majority of his career as a successful salesman in the food and grocery industry. He was well known for his kind, approachable nature by his customers and coworkers, who always looked forward to his visits as he was viewed not just as a business colleague, but as their friend. He ultimately became a partner and member of the Board of Directors at UBC Marketing where he worked for more than 30 years. Don's professional success was exceeded by his success in his personal life as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a fun-loving, kind, compassionate person who consistently brightened the days of his friends and family. Don also possessed the rare gift of making new acquaintances feel like old friends. Don loved golfing, but his true passion was boating. He purchased his first boat at age 14 and over the next 61 years was happiest cruising on Lake Michigan with his friends and family.

Don is preceded in death by his parents Simon (Sam) and Marian, and his brother, Roger.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Beverwyk, his children (Tom and his wife Ashley, Laurie, Lisa), two siblings (Sandy Goulooze, Dave) and his granddaughter (Bella).

A time to visit with Don’s family will be held 4-8 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Cook Funeral Home, Grandville, 4235 Prairie St. SW (West building).

In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org/involved/donate/memorial-giving. Don was born on Christmas Day, which we believe was a gift from God to his family and friends. We view his passing on Thanksgiving as our gesture of thankfulness that we had the good fortune of having Don in our lives for all these years. While his physical self will be missed, his spirit will certainly live on in our fond memories and in the lessons he taught us.
