Donald Osterink Jr., age 78, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. Don was born on September 28, 1945 to Donald and Sarah Osterink Sr. He was a 1963 graduate of Grandville High School. On June 17, 1966, Don married his high school sweetheart, Marcia (Zandbergen). After college, he was drafted into the Army. Soon after, he began his 37-year career at Coca Cola. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; respected businessman; loyal friend; and faithful Christian.
Don enjoyed his summers at Big Star Lake with his family, loved attending all his grandkids sporting events, and was Grandville’s number one fan all his life. He loved fishing, golfing, pickleball, bowling, baseball, ping pong, and shuffleboard, and he was always the one to beat. He could never turn down a donut run, a trip to Jones, a pontoon boat ride, a wiffle ball game, coffee on the deck, or time with his family. He was a difference maker, a person who made a big impact with just a small action or a few words, someone who improves the lives of others by just being themselves.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Brad Donald; and sister, Sharon Richmond. He will be remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 57 years, Marcia (Zandbergen); children Wade (Sydney) Osterink, Shawn (Josh) Sanders, and Shanna (Aaron) Maike; grandchildren Chase, Kasey, Madison, Dexter, and Wyatt Osterink, Kenzie (Garrett) Farney, Brad Sanders, Hunter and Tanner Maike; great-grandchild, Breslyn Farney; brother-in-law, Bill Richmond; sister Nancy (Craig) Doornbos; brothers Gary (Barb) Osterink and Brian (Marilee) Osterink; special in-laws; many nieces, nephews, and the longest list of friends.
Visitation with relatives and friends will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home (West Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A celebration of Don’s life will commence at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, with visitation one hour prior, at Zion Reformed Church, 4457 36th St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Rev. Marcia Pratt will be officiating.
In honor of Don and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Zion Reformed Church Youth Group. The family welcomes memories and messages www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guest book online.
