Douglas John DeBlaay

DEBLAAY — Douglas John DeBlaay, age 77, passed away on April 18, 2010 and is now with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born May 10, 1932 to John and Adeline DeBlaay, who predeceased him, along with his sister Delores DeBlaay. He is survived by is his wife Sharlene Vos; and they were looking forward to celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary on May 4. Also surviving are his son Doug Marlynn DeBlaay, son Terry Traci DeBlaay, daughter Lori Kris Yamada; his eleven grandchildren Taryn Rick Myers, Carri Jeff Moore, Jaime Brandon Mueller, Lyndsey Nick Friedt, Matthew Amie DeBlaay, Bonnie Tim Blakeney , Joel Dayla DeBlaay, Clare DeBlaay, Kristopher April Yamada, Jessica Yamada, & Nicholas Yamada; 10 great grandchildren with the anticipation of 2 more soon, along with his younger brother John Sue DeBlaay.

He graduated Creston High School in 1951, was a member of Berean Baptist Church, and a long time employee of Michigan Consolidated Gas Company. He enjoyed spending time with his family and created many precious memories with them. He had a passion for the outdoors; loved hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. His grandchildren and great grandchildren will always remember his crushing bear hugs and ready smile.

His family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Van Strein-Creston Funeral Home 1833 Plainfield N.E. Grand Rapids, Michigan 49505. A memorial service in his honor will be held Thursday April 22, 2010 at Berean Baptist Church 1574 Coit N.E. Grand Rapids, Michigan 49505 at 11:00 am.
