Dr. William J. Alt, M.D.

Dr. William J. Alt, M.D., age 89, passed away in the comfort of his home, Saturday, January 13, 2018. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosalind “Dearest” Alt (Petrucco); his parents, Jacob and Ruth Alt; and his brother, Theodore Alt.

Dr. Alt will be lovingly remembered by his children Nan Alt, Karen (Mark) Kraemer, Robert Alt and Gretchen (Matt) Ames; his 14 grandchildren; and his three great-grandchildren.

William served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Michigan. While there, he met Rosalind on a blind date set up by each other’s friends. Dr. Alt was a lifelong learner. He loved to read and study. He continued to practice medicine until just a few years ago. William was a passionate fan of U of M Football and the Detroit Tigers. He was begrudgingly a Lions fan. Throughout his life, William loved to travel, often bringing his grandkids to New York City for Broadway plays and dinners at nice restaurants.

A memorial service will be held 2 PM Thursday, January 18, at Cook Memorial Chapel in Grandville, 4235 Prairie St. SW (east building). The family will welcome guests prior to the service beginning at 1 PM. Pastor Dennis Gilbert will officiate.
