Floyd spent most of his life in or near Rockford, IL - just a hop, skip, and a jump away from one of the most beautiful places in the world to him - Wrigley Field and his beloved Chicago Cubs. Thankfully, Floyd’s hope of seeing the Cubs win the World Series came to fruition in his lifetime. He spent over a third of his life working security at the Nuclear Plant in Byron, IL, and the friends he made there became his extended family. Floyd had an amazing memory. If you gave him a year, he could accurately tell you who won the World Series that year. He could add a hundred numbers in his head faster than anyone could enter them into a calculator. He loved talking about sports and U.S. History, and could offer up details that the rest of us would have had to Google to find. Floyd was a simple man who loved only a few things - Mulligan stew or bean soup, a good book about sports or a western, a good card game, a trip to the casino or a game on TV. Most of all, Floyd loved his family and they loved him.
He leaves behind four children Jeff (Julie) Sterling, Laurie (Bob) Miller, Kimberly (Kevin) McDermott, and Roxanne (Joshua) Dudicz; grandchildren Jordan (Colin), Joel, Kylee, Rachel, Luke, Alana, Xavier, Serenity, Elliott, Larissa, Allison, and Nolan; great-grandson, Skyler; and Kimberly and Roxanne’s mother, Donna, who became his best friend and caregiver.
Up in heaven, Floyd is probably chatting it up with his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Miller, getting a golf game going with his brothers, Harold and John, playing cards with his sisters, Dorothea and Glenda, betting with the angels on when the Cubs will win again, and cheering loudly for the family and friends left behind to finish their game of Life.
Floyd’s memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday, January 5, 2019 at CrossPoint Baptist Church, 2290 28th St. SW, Wyoming, MI. Relatives and friends may meet his family from 10-11 AM Saturday, January 5 at church.
His family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcares.com.
Floyd never really liked flowers, but he spent a lot of time looking for greeting cards - so, in lieu of flowers, please send a card to tell someone you love them … or just to make them laugh.
