George S. Cole

George was born April 2, 1919 in Evart, MI. His family then moved to Alma, where he grew up. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Stella Cole; three brothers, Forrest Cole, Arthur Cole and Hugh Cole; and one infant sister Mildred Cole.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years Maxine; his children, Linda Cole of Wyoming, Peggy Floyd Hocum of Grant, Dennis Cole of Wyoming, Anita Robert Cantu of Dorr; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Floyd Cole of Luther, LaVerne Cole of Alma; sisters, Dorothy Nelson of Alma, Armona Meyers of Alma, Maude Loomis of Saginaw; and many nieces and nephews.

George was a very proud American and served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.

After safely returning home from the war with his four brothers in 1945, he fell in love and married Maxine Koons.

He made a very good living driving the “big rigs” as he called them for over 30 years.

In his later years, he returned to Europe to honor his fallen comrades and to re-visit the historic places where he was called to duty. His only son Dennis, accompanied him on his final trip to Europe.

George loved his entire family dearly, and he will be sadly missed but will remain in their hearts forever.

The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Cook Memorial Chapel 4235 Prairie St. SW - east building.

The family will meet with relatives and friends 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Cook Funeral Home, Grandville - west building. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Research.
