Glenn was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Cecila Faber; brothers Larry and Don Faber; and sister Edna and brother-in-law Bob Alles.
He will be deeply missed by his dear wife of 56 years, Bette (Sytsema); three daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Bret Vanderwall, Julie and Ron VandeVegte, and Joni and Brian Bolt. Other survivors who will miss his gentle presence are his brother Bob and wife Marie; and five sisters-in-law Bonnie (Larry) Faber, Jeanette (Don) Faber, Jean (Bud) Sytsema, Phylis (Kenneth) Moll, and Marilyn (Calvin) Cok; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Glenn lived a full and wonderful life, and those who knew him cherished this happy, generous, wise, patient, and humble man. He was born and grew up on a farm in Byron Center where he loved horsing around with his brothers and playing baseball. For decades he worked as an electrician and was part founder and owner of Excel Electric, where he was respected as a fair, honest, and hard-working businessman. With seven holes-in-one to his name, Glenn was an avid golfer and also loved watching the Michigan Wolverines play football and basketball. Glenn loved the body of Christ and served God’s church faithfully as an elder at 1st Byron and Friendship Christian Reformed Churches. He particularly loved singing baritone in a quartet for many years and in church choirs. He was a lifelong learner, loved traveling, and was fascinated with astronomy - always amazed at the wonders of God’s world. But nothing brought him greater joy than his nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild - Rachel, Zachary (and Sara Katharine), and Elly Vanderwall; Kate, Anne, and Olivia VandeVegte; Grace, Maria, and George Bolt; and great-granddaughter Ruthie Vanderwall are all tangible evidence of his legacy of faith.
Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Friendship Christian Reformed Church, 190 100th St., S.E., Byron Center, MI 49315.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday, November 13, at Friendship Christian Reformed Church, as well as one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Glenn was a huge supporter of Christian education and served on the boards of Byron Center Christian and South Christian Schools. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Calvin University or a Christian school of your choice.
