
BIRTLES – G. James "Jim" Birtles, age 78, of Byron Center, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 7, 2008. He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers, Dorland, Norman, Harold, and Alva. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Patricia "Batog" Birtles; his children, Mark Rhonda Birtles, Jeff Lisa Birtles, Joe Lisa Birtles, grandchildren, Mark Jr., Becci, Blake, Renee, Alaina, Brandy, and Brooke; siblings, Ford Birtles, Eldon Dorothy Birtles, Phyllis Masselink, Dale Phyllis Birtles, and Clayton Nancy Birtles; in-laws, Sharon Raymond, Bernard Vicki Batog, and Ralph Chada; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
After serving in the Marine Corp for four years during the Korean War, Jim worked many years in the "dirt" excavating. He was a member of Local 324 Operating Engineers, loved deer hunting, and was a proud member in antique tractor pulling clubs.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Cook Memorial Chapel – 4235 Prairie SW, Grandville East Building. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
The family will meet with relatives and friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home – Grandville – West Building.
