Heaven's choir has welcomed a talented man. So thankful Greg lent his talents to HRC. I can only imagine the sound they are making. We will miss you Greg, but you are whole and pain free, and face to face your Savior. For that we give God the praise.

"With that voice, she could really go places!" - Greg, when talking about my daughter Emily, an eighth-grader at Crestwood. He was her catalyst; her first encourager. My favorite teacher and, years later, hers. Emily has her BM and MM in voice from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and is pursuing her Doctorate in Voice at the University of Michigan. She sings now because of his words then. We will never forget him. 
 We live our lives on the shoulders of angels. God bless you, Mr. Hewitt. You changed the world, one child at a time.

Mr. Hewitt was a fantastic teacher. I was very lucky to have him in my life. Middle school is such a tough time and he made it better. He was a fantastic man with an amazing voice.

Mr. Hewitt was adored by all of his students and I was no exception. I had him for choir at Crestwood Middle school and freshman year at East Kentwood when he helped Mr. Webb. He was always encouraging to each and every kid. I am sad to hear of his passing and thoughts and prayers are with the family. He will be greatly missed by all who know him. He made a mark on many lives.

Mr. Hewitt is one of those teachers that you never forget. He made my 8th grade year probably the best year of my entire grade school education. Being in his choir was such a privilege. We learned so much but had great fun, as well. Unforgettable. I hope his family will find much healing in all the music he must have shared with them over the years. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a big one.

Mr. Hewitt was the musical director for the first 3 musicals I ever did starting with 'The Spirit of '76' at Crestwood and the experience with him inspired me to continue on through high school and college. I've always remained thankful to him, I still tell stories about those moments in time, and I will continue to remember him for the rest of my years. What a lovely and positive influencer he was to so many. Sending love and light to his family and close friends.

Greg was an amazing talent. He did wondrous things with the middle school students. We enjoyed his excellent musicals year after year. I really respected and admired Gregg. He brought such positive attention to our school system. Kentwood students were so blessed to have him.

"Greg was one of the greatest educators in the Kentwood District. He dedicated his life to the passions that he loved, music and teaching students. He was talented and he worked very hard with his students so that they would reach their potential. I was blessed to have had the opportunity to work with a professional that had such a very positive impact on all the students that he taught throughout his career. We all will miss that contagious smile and a kind personality that he projected for so many years. We all know that God has called home another Angel. An amazing teacher and an amazing person. My parents graduated from highschool with Mr. Hewitt and I was fortunate enough to have him for a teacher. He was truly gifted as an educator. I can still sight read music and sing a middle C because I learned from him in 7th grade. He was a true blessing.

I have wonderful memories of Mr. Hewitt. I had him for choir in 6th-8th grade, and was in his musicals too. He not only made choir educational, but also fun! School, in general, was hard for me because it didn't come easy, but when I was in choir my confidence soared because I actually felt good at something-and he was a big part of that! With deepest condolences to family and friends, yet celebrating Greg's life of service to others and his arrival Home in Heaven. I count it a privilege to have worked with Greg at Crestwood Middle School. As a young teacher at the time, he was an example of diligent work and relentless commitment to student success. Many lives (including my own) have been powerfully impacted by Greg.

Thirty-nine years ago, Greg offered to teach me to sing contemporary Christian music while he was worship arts director at Fairhaven Ministries. It was one of the greatest blessings in my life. All of my training up to that point had been in classical Christian music but apparently Greg saw something in my voice he thought worth his time to train and for 2 years he worked with me and taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for his teaching.

It is with great sorrow that I read about the passing of Greg. I send my prayers and condolences to his family. At this difficult time, may God cradle you in his arms and comfort you in the loss of Greg. I hope you can take comfort in knowing that he was loved by many and now singing in heaven. I feel so blessed to have known and worked with Greg as a parent volunteer at Crestwood Musicals on several of the school musicals. He dedicated much love and talent to the music program there. Sweet memories have flooded my mind. He will be missed. What a privilege it was to work along side Greg. I am sorry to say I cannot attend the remembrance celebration. My heart goes out to all who mourn his passing. It is my sincere hope that you find comfort and peace in the days ahead.

We didn't know Mr. Hewitt personally, but we can tell what an amazing man he was every time we see his princess, Kenna. Mr. Hewitt was my teacher in 7th and 8th grade for choir. I sang with the boys as I have kind of a deeper voice, so he put me with the tenors. That all changed in the East Kentwood High school though, as the teacher there, Mr Ron Rogers said, "Girls don't sing tenor here". My favorite memory of Mr Hewitt was the time we were practicing, and I was reading the book Old Yeller. Mr Hewitt stopped the class and asked me what was so important. I lifted the book up where he could see the title. Mr Hewitt smiled, and said, "That's a good book, how much do you have left?" I said, "about 7 pages". Mr Hewitt said, "Finish it up and then join us , please". So I did quickly finish it, and set it down. He just nodded at me then and smiled when I joined the rest of our class for practice. He could have sent me to the office, or gave me detention, but he didn't. He was one of my favorite teachers.
