Jack Wedge

Jack was born in Allegan and later met Margaret Ann (Downie) Wedge while they both were attending Michigan State University. After college, Jack joined the U.S. Army where he served two years. In 1960, he married Margaret Ann in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

Surviving Jack are his wife, Margaret Ann; their five children Dan (Rebecca) Wedge, Deb Ax, Jim (Divya) Wedge, Jon (Holly) Wedge, and Christy (Abishai) Gray; nine grandchildren David (Renae) Ax, Sarah Ax, Rachel (Gerritt) Ax, Josh (Brittney) Wedge, Justin Wedge, Kai Wedge, Sophia Wedge, Jack Wedge, and Ella Wedge; and one great-granddaughter, Winnie Wedge. Jack was preceded in death by one of his children, Peter Wedge; parents Elmer and Audrey Wedge; and three brothers and their spouses Melbert (Elaine, Betty) Wedge, Doran (June) Wedge, and Karlton (Lois) Wedge.

Jack’s family was his first priority. He loved telling stories and jokes to make others laugh and put them at ease. Another favorite pastime he enjoyed was making handmade, hairpin lace blankets and hats for his family and friends. He was also fond of gardening and collecting things.

In addition to their five biological children, Jack and Margaret Ann fostered more than 60 children and hosted several foreign exchange students. Jack retired after more than 19 years from his role as a water technician at Perrigo. Jack was active in his church and volunteered regularly to help with their food pantry.

Visitation with Jack’s family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI. Funeral services followed by a celebration of Jack’s life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023, with visitation one hour prior to service, at Jenison Bible Church, 6360 14th Ave., Hudsonville, MI.
