

James Robert Lanting passed away peacefully February 11, 2025 into the arms of his Lord. Jim was born in Jamestown, MI on December 17, 1928 to his parents John and Jennie Lanting. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Clarine (Homrich) Lanting; also preceded in death by his son, John J. Lanting; son-in-law, Ronald E. Smits; great-granddaughters Aubrey and Payton Groenenveld; as well as his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughters Tammy Smits and Lisa (Gary) Aalderink; daughter-in-law, Lois Lanting; grandchildren Melissa Winterhalter, Jennie (Ken) Groenenveld, Joshua (Ashley) Lanting, Jim (Leigh-Ann) Smits, Kimberly (Thomas) Stasa, Riley (Keegan) Aalderink, Kaley Aalderink; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Eunice Lanting.
Jim moved from Jamestown to the Kelloggsville area, where he attended Kelloggsville HS and graduated from Monterey HS in CA, while serving in the U.S. Army. He met his lovely wife, Clarine, in 1950, then he served his country in Korea for 1.5 years. After returning home, they were married in 1955 and he was able to graduate Davenport College (University) during that same year. After graduation, he worked as a CPA for five years before venturing out into new endeavors. He built Park Lanes Bowling center, then went into purchasing and selling motels, before starting a new company, with his business partners, buying and selling mobile home parks. This later became Aspen Enterprises, which had parks located in multiple U.S. states. He retired and they sold Aspen after a successful 26 years.
Jim stayed active over the years with many interests including Davenport University, serving as a trustee on the foundation board. During that time, he was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award and an Honorary Doctorate of Law Degree.
Throughout his lifetime, his activities included playing fast pitch softball, tennis, boating, and his favorite, golf. He was a member of many golf clubs over the years. He and Clarine traveled extensively throughout their married life, with their favorite location being Hawaii. They also spent 30 plus years wintering at their home in FL.
Jim will be greatly missed by his lovely daughters Tammy and Lisa, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was very blessed throughout his lifetime always happy and smiling. He loved his Lord and showed how much he loved Him by the way he lived his life each day.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 17, at The Refuge, 60 Port Sheldon St., Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to service. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Jim, contributions may be made to Grandville Calvin Christian Schools.
