Joanne Beth Smith (Grooters), age 74, surrounded by her family, left these earthly bounds into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, September 20, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Jeanne Grooters; brothers Herman, Robert, and Larry; sister, Nancy. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Jim Smith; daughters Julie (Craig) Mersman and Sharon (Michael) Ray; son, Randy (Trish) Smith; grandchildren Lindsay (Zach) Goodyke, Tyler Mersman, Madison Mersman, Ethan Ray, Caleb Ray, and Carter Ray. She will be missed by all her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and all her family and friends. We all loved her dearly.

At her request, a family burial will take place at Floral View Memorial Gardens in Grandville. A celebration of life service will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Remembrance Church, 4575 Remembrance Rd. NW, Grand Rapids, Michigan, following the burial. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Joanne, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
