
KIRSCHNER - John G. Kirschner, Lt. Col. Inf. USA Retired, age 83 of Wyoming, passed away Friday, September 24, 1999. Surviving are his wife Georgina Strehlke Kirschner; stepsons, James A. Anna M. Strehlke of Wyoming, and Robert N. Judy Strehlke of Dover-Foxcroft, ME; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Raymond Jane Kirschner and Walter Kirschner both of Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Kirschner was born in Akron, OH on November 14, 1915. For many years Mr. Kirschner lived in Madisonville, KY where he served as Director of Civil Defense for the city and county and also City Manager. He was a decorated veteran of the vicious fighting in the South Pacific during WWII in Guadal Canal, New Georgia, Bougainville, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was also in combat in Korea, Quemoy and Matsu Islands. He was awarded the DFC Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star medal, three Bronze Star medals, the Air Medal, five Purple Hearts and numerous other lesser awards. He was active in Masonary, a 32nd Degree Mason. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Monday from the Cook Memorial Chapel east building, 4235 Prairie St. SW with Pastor Bernard Blauwkamp officiating. Interment will be in Madisonville, KY. Family will meet with visitors one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions to Heartland Hospice will be appreciated.
